Pocket Gamer has news of a report from analytics firm Distimo which finds that the App Store has many, many more top selling games than the Android Market. According to Distimo, there are ten smash-hit iPhone games that sell over 250,000 copies every 2 months, in contrast to the Android Market, which has a much smaller number of smash hit games when compared to Apple, with only 5 Android games selling more than 250,000 copies since the inception of the Android Market. Furthermore, the report reveals that nearly 80% of paid apps on the Android Market are downloaded less than 100 times, and just 1 in 1,000 are downloaded more than 50,000 times. 96 Android Market apps have racked up more than 5 million downloads, yet only 2 paid apps have passed 2 million downloads.
Distimo points out in the Android Markets defence that the App Store has been around a year longer of course, and that Apple is much quicker at updating the App Stores rankings.
