3G(S) vs 4(S) - which is best in terms of sturdiness?

Hey everyone. I have a simple question in about the iPhone 3G/3GS versus the 4/4S.

I know that the 4(S) has Gorilla Glass, but I have seen many iPhone 4(S)s with completely shattered screens. I've rarely seen an iPhone 3G(S) with a cracked screen. Do you think that the iPhone 4(S) is more prone to shattering/major breaking because of all the glass versus the iPhone 3G(S)? If so, what case would you recommend that is as slim as possibly but provides good protection from drops?
