3gs gps

What does the gps do on the iPhone 3GS. I jail-broke and changed base band but it stills work for weather face book Craig's list and radar. Is the gps for location finder or what. Can any one help me out with this be cause I think I have a newish 3GS i think.

GPS in your phone is for positioning localization. If you have the latest iOS 5.0.1 go to settings> location services/ there you can enable apps which can access your location.

GPS is used primarily for navigation apps

Location Services is a similar feature that finds you on the map as well. Usually used for check-in in applications and such.

If you download a gps application (like say Garmin,TomTom etc), they wont work with ipad baseband installed
