Activating Siri without touching the phone

I have an iPhone 4 and wondered us it possible to activate Siri without touching it so I can send a text or email or make a call. Also when a message arrives either by text or email, Siri will read it to me!

i noticed I gave to manually activate Siri all the time, I'm sure I am doing something wrong

If you put it up to your head like you are going to talk on the phone, but do not have your phone app open, and hold it there for a second see what it does....
