im new here this is my first post

basicly ive bought an iphone 4, it arrived today
i needed a new SIM, a micro SIM or something
so i go to telstra, get the new SIM, activate it hence terminating my old one. im on pre-paid

i go home, insert the new SIM, enter the PIN, thats all fine, plug it into itunes and an error occures

"the sim card inserted in this iphone does not seem to be supported"
"only compatable sim cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iphone, please insert the SIM card that come with the iphone or visit a supported carriers store to recieve a replacement sim card"

does anyone know what i can do to fix it?

Your iPhone is locked it seems. Who did you get the phone off originally? Its a different carrier to the micro sim one right?

To unlock it you need to call the original carrier and ask for the unlock.

Optus and Voda do it for free.

i got it off ebay (yeh i should have expected it realy =/ )
ive sent them a message to ask who its with, is there anyway of finding out who its locked too?

Check in General -> About and see if there is anything in there.

If not see what the guy said that you bought it off. I would expect him to put it in the advert when selling it.

Check the original packaging and stuff too, see if there is any mention of it.

Lastly, stick your friends and families sim cards in until you get a signal.

Good luck!!

alright, i saw a post somewhere to try calling apple support and they might be able to tell by supplying the IMAE number

at least im pritty sure the problem is its locked and not some other problem and can be fixed...its just a pain the *** lol
