Alarm always rings

My girl INSISTS her iPhone 4 alarm will not go off if she sets the side bar to silent. Now we both got the phones at the same time so I imagine they are the same.. I pretty much Always have mine on silent and I KNOW my alArm goes off!!
I asked her if she also turns the VOLUME down. No. Any ideas?

Huh!? She wants the alarm to work.(ON), but insists that it doesnt if the ringer is off

Got A chance to. Check it.. Seems to work just as it should. She STILL MAINTAINS it was a MALFUNCTION not operator error!!
