Hi guys
What can I say? I am a gadget lover. My first apple phone was a 3G 8g and I now have a Iphone 4 32g. Mostly i have no problems with downloading apps and other stuff but I struggle a bit to download upgrades from I tunes. It always bomb out before it's fully downloaded and then it is goodbye to 660 meg on my 3G. I did download an upgrade from the net but it is compressed and I can not get it to upload to my phone trough I-tunes.

Enjoy the day!!

hello and welcome to the forum!!

this is a very common mistake people make, they download a .ipsw and because winrar recognises it as a zipped file people try unzip it and really they are just unzipping the .ipsw. so the mistake you made was trying to unzip it and thats why itunes no longer recognised the unzipped .ipsw. all you had to do was direct itunes at the .ipsw you downloaded and not try extract it.

firmwares for the ip4 are around 730mb now. also try the direct download links from apple you might have better luck,

remember dont try extract the ipsw

Hi
Thanks for the advise and the nice link towards all the upgrades. I will try it like you suggest.
Thanks

Welcome,

That link unleashed provided is very good. I use it all the time to help people in similar situations to yourself. Just he carefull to choose the correct ipsw for your device. 4.3.3 for the iPhone 4 is different for the 3GS...

gaz...... I should probably know this by now, but if I decide to upgrade my 4.1 iOS to something like 4.3.3 or even 5.0 later on this year, will I be looking at a 600+ MB download, or so??? For real? How do people accomplish that -- speeds in the USA average around 3 mbps. It could take hours!

iOS 5 is over 700mb. 3mbps isn't that bad a speed, its what i get on a good day. Lol. You could download it in less than an hour at that speed.

The good thing about iOS 5 is once you've upgraded to it all the updates become delta. This means you will only download the things that change. This means they may only be a few MB in size depending on how big an update (as far as features go) it is. Also you will be able to update without your computer...

Thanks gaz.... I was hoping I was wrong about the large file-size, but as you say, it's just a matter of letting it download.... I'm still at iOS 4.1, looking strong, and may go to iOS 5 much later, after I read that many users are having positive feelings about it.
