After several previous reports of iPhones apparently spontaneously combusting over the past few weeks, MacRumors has a story about an iPhone 4, which ironically was owned by a firefighter, seeming to catch fire out of the blue for no reason at all. The story was initially reported on the East Brandywine Fire Companys website, with the firefighter being based in the Pennsylvanian town of East Brandywine. According to the report, the phone caught fire when it was being charged via the USB connector. It then fell to the floor, setting the carpet on fire, and was swiftly thrown out of the window to prevent any more serious damage to property, or indeed life or limb. According to the story, a large volume of smoke and a noxious smell was witnessed emanating from the device. The phone has subsequently been sent to Apples Cupertino headquarters to enable Apples engineers to investigate what might have caused it to catch fire. Good job this didnt happen at night when people were sleeping or it could have had very serious consequences.
