Any way to save texts?

I've had my iPhone 4 for about 6 months, but I don't know if there is any way I can save certain texts so they aren't accidentally deleted?

There was a way discussed in this forum that involved Shsh-ing into the device.. Can't find the thread.. Look for it in the search bar..
