BGR writes that Apple has now added the ability to check whether or not your friendly neighbourhood local Apple Retail Store has the iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c in stock, and then reserve a phone for pickup at the store.
The system works by having you first choose the finish, model, and wireless carrier that you want for your phone, then using the “check availability” facility by entering their zip code to see if nearby stores have the phone they want in stock. If the phone is in stock, the customer can then opt to pick up the phone within approximately one hour, and will then be alerted by email when the phone has arrived at their chosen store.
As reported previously today, Apple is seeing unprecedented sales figures for the two new iPhones, smashing records for the first weekend of sales, with Apple announcing today that demand for the iPhone 5s is already exceeding supply.
