Apple has today officially announced the iPhone 5C to the world, and while the pundits may have got the name right, they were very wrong about the price, which is set to cost a staggeringly low $99 for the 16GB version and $199 for the 32GB version when on a two-year contract.
Reporting on the unveiling, The Verge notes that when Apples Phil Schiller finally gave the world its first look at Apples new cheaper iPhone, it looked exactly as wed expected it to, thanks to the numerous leaked case photos and video over the past few weeks.
The back and sides of the phone are all made from one piece, with a choice of green, white, blue red and yellow casing. You wont see seams, or part lines, or joins, said Schiller. The phone is made of hard-coated polycarbonate.
Custom cases will also be available for the iPhone 5C, made of a soft-feel silicon rubber. These cases will cost $29, and give added colour options.
As expected, the iPhone 5C will have a 4-inch Retina display, just like the iPhone 5, as well as the same A6 processor and 8-megapixel rear camera. The main difference, according to The Verge, is an upgrade to the FaceTime HD front-facing camera.
The iPhone 5C will support more LTE bands than any other smartphone in the world, says Apple, with Jony Ive proclaiming it to be, beautifully, unapologetically plastic.
