Reuters reports today on a surprising announcement from Apple that it was recently targeted by hackers. As any Apple watcher will know, disclosing such matters is very rare for Apple. According to the report, this was the biggest cyber attack that Apple has ever faced, with anonymous hackers managing to infect the computers of several Apple employees when they visited a software developer website. The malware was specifically targeted at Macs, Apple told Reuters in a statement. Apparently the software exploited a flaw in the Java web browser plug in, and was also used to attack Facebook last week. Apple also revealed in the statement that the malware was used to target Macs belonging to companies other than Apple. Reuters adds that an anonymous source told them that hundreds of businesses had been affected, including defence contractors. The source also said, This is the first really big attack on Macs. Apple has more on its hands than the attack itself. Apples official spokesperson said, there is no evidence that any data left Apple. Apple intends to release software today so that users can find out if their Mac is infected and repair the damage. [/FONT]
