TUAW reports today on some new executive recruitment moves from Apple that serve to emphasise just how seriously Apple takes iOS as a gaming platform. According to MCV, Apple has just snapped up Nintendo UK PR supremo Rob Saunders, and installed him in a specially created new role as PR for iOS gaming. TUAW says that Apple has also just recruited Activisions European PR director, Nick Grange, who has previously worked at Electronic Arts and Microsoft. Granges new role at Apple is not yet known, but TUAW says that he is rumoured to be focusing on iPad hardware. Neither of these moves are at all surprising really, with the iOS platform, and the massive success of games such as Angry Birds, having revolutionised the games industry over the past year or so, leaving some of the bigger companies struggling to keep up. After all, as TUAW points out, a survey from last September found that 44.1 million people were now playing games on their iPod touches, iPhones, and iPads in America alone, with Nintendo coming in second with 41 million DS gamers and Sony trailing even further behind with 18 million PSP users.
