This week, Apple released a detailed financial report of the last fiscal year. The 10-K filing with the SEC revealed a lot of interesting details regarding the growths Apple has been experiencing in the last year. And were not talking just about money.
According to the information provided, the tech giant has increased its expenses in the R&D department dramatically as compared to last year with numbers being set to $3.4 billion as opposed to $2.4 billion of last year. Apparently building innovative, cutting edge products costs a lot of money. $3.4 billion might sound a lot but surprisingly enough, compared to other companies, Apple spends relatively little. For example, Microsoft spent up to $9.8 billion in the fiscal year of 2012, while Google spent $5.2 billion in 2011.
Apple grew in the employee department as well, adding a total of 12,000 full time employees when compared to last year. Starting with 29th of September, Cupertino had the impressive number of 72,800 workers all around the world, plus the additional 3,300 serving for seasonal jobs such as construction workers. Out of those, 42,400 only worked in the Retail sector.
The filling also revealed Apple opened a total of 33 of Retail Stores worldwide, 28 of which are not situated in the United States. Therefore, the total number of stores is now 390 as opposed to the 357 of last year. Each store is doing great in the financial department, as the revenue per store increased from the $43.3 million last year to $51.5 million.
