With 2011 ending, there are a bunch of studies popping out regarding smartphone efficiency during the last year. Were going to be talking here, about the survey conducted by the Arieso company whos in charge of optimizing mobile networks.
Users may be interested in knowing that according to Arieso the iPhone 4S is consuming around twice as much data as the previous iPhone model. It even surpasses the iPad in that department. And whos to blame if not the personal assistant Siri who requires an Internet connection in order to work properly. Thats because if you ask Siri to find the best Indian restaurant in your neighborhood, the voice data is immediately sent off to Apples data centers where the request is analyzed and the results are sent back to your iPhone 4S.
Quite bizarre is the fact that initially it was thought that Siri didnt use too much data, but now the usage seems to have mysteriously doubled, presumably because smartphones users take advantage of it quite often.
Arieso Chief Technology Officer, Michael Flanagan stated in a Bloomberg interview that the research showed that a minority of users account for half of the downloaded data. And 1% of the high-use subscribers downloaded half of the data volumes.
The trend of voice recognition software will accelerate things. Google Majel is already in the cards and the developments in Google Voice as well, so this might put pressure on mobile companies that their new data plans support the demand.
