Apple Maps bloat with Carplay?

Hello All, My phone is iphone XR.

I'm having an issue that I cannot solve... When I use Apple Maps connected to Carplay, the "documents and data" storage for the app bloats. For example:

- I removed the Maps app and reinstalled. Documents and Data now at approx. 56 MB
- Used the Maps app on a 2 hour road trip connected to carplay. Documents and Data now 9 GB.
- Also, the battery drains very quickly: a full charge to 0% over the course of one night. (I was late to work).

I have experienced this many times. Removing the app and reinstalling solves all issues, including battery drain.

Has anyone else experienced this, or similar issues? Using google maps solves the problem, but I prefer Apple Maps.
