OK! So I went out and bought myself a used iphone 3gs. I figured it was about time that I got in on the iphone thing. The phone is still locked to AT&T (I got it dirt cheap) The IMEI is good on it, it just doesn't have active service. I have a tracfone. I would like to use my tracfone sim in my shiny new to me iphone so I start digging. Normally I'm good at finding what I want, and following directions on how to successfully reach my end goal. I wound up frustrated and decided to give myself a break for a while.. I was going to add a book off my itunes account and read up only to find out that my phone will not talk to my itunes. Grrface. I then googled how to fix that and the first step of about 5 or 6 tutorials on how to fix this is to enter my phone into recovery mode and let itunes handle the rest, so I did that. It worked! YAY!!! One problem solved right? Wrong! I am now updated to ios 6.1.3 and my phone is no longer activated. I don't HAVE a sim card from at&t to stick into this sucker and get it to work so I google again and try to find out how to "hacktivate" my phone. This is where I ran in to my current problem. I'm using a tutorial guide on how to use Redsn0w to basically downgrade my ios version to 6.0.0 and then jailbreak from there. The problem is that when I finish the downgrade, my phone flashes the cute little pineapple for a few seconds, and then goes back to the normal ios spash screen and redsn0w says my version is still 6.1.3
Can anyone tell me for the love of god what I'm doing wrong? Everything looks successful until that little pineapple goes away and the apple logo of doom appears again to dash all my hopes and dreams away!
My serial number's first five digits are 81010 and I only know this by reading the teeny tiny numbers on the sim card tray. HALP ME !!!
Edit: Instead of using Redsn0w, I picked up sn0wbreeze which is a TON more user friendly. Everything seems to be working so far, I'm in to the shift restore on itunes and about halfway done with the install.
