AppleInsider reports on a newly published worldwide mobile phone survey from IDC which says that Apple has held onto its place as the fourth largest mobile phone vendor in the world after shipping 18.7 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2011. Apples iPhone sales for the period, which were announced earlier in April, represent 114.9 percent year over year growth for the iPhone, which is way ahead of the rest of the mobile phone market, both regular phones and smartphones. Nokia is still top of the list of worldwide shipments for Q1 2011, with 108.5 million phones sold. Samsung is second with 70.0 million phones sold, while LG is just ahead of Apple with 24.5 million phones sold. In terms of market share, Apples has grown from 2.8 percent in Q1 2010 to 5.0 percent in 2011. Nokia still has a huge hold on the market share with 29.2 percent, although that figure represents a drop from the Q1 2010 figure of 34.7 percent.
