CNET writes today that Apple has been holding talks with two of the biggest music labels in the world - Warner Music and Universal Music Group - in a bid to agree a streaming deal with them for their music for Apple’s forthcoming music service. CNET says that it has learned that Apple’s per-stream rate that it is trying to get the companies to agree on could be half of what Pandora is paying, but this could be because Apple’s new music service will also have other financial benefits for the labels, such as giving customers the opportunity to buy the songs that they hear via iTunes, as well as offering the music labels a share of the revenue from audio adverts that Apple will run on the free service. CNET’s sources say that the streaming service, which some have dubbed “iRadio”, although this is not likely to be the official name, would be connected to iTunes, and would be available on all iOS devices.[/FONT]
