9to5 Mac reports that a number of iPhone 6 users have been posting to Apple Support Communities threads about an issue with being unable to add their cards back onto Apple Pay following a restore of their phone, either as new, or from backup.
The general consensus seems to be that Apple is currently unable to fix the issue, and is simply replacing phones. Here’s a excerpt from one user’s post on the matter:
“I just left the Apple Store. They couldn’t diagnose the issue and we did a restore there in store and the problem persisted. The solution was to swap the hardware…Getting a new phone fixed the issue.”
According to 9to5 Mac, the thread about this particular problem is five pages long, with 71 posts in total.
As to what is causing the issue, 9to5 Mac says that it sounds like the secure enclave is not clearing totally, even when the user is notified by their bank that the cards have been removed when the phone is restored.
