Apple is a recent passenger to the LTE band wagon, which it joined in September, but its junior status didn’t stop it from grabbing 26.7% of the global LTE device market already. A new report coming from Strategy Analytics highlights Apple’s strong debut and brings more information about the LTE market in general.
Apple might have started off strong, but its biggest competitor Samsung, is still in charge of the LTE market for the seventh quarter in a row. For now. We’re saying for now, because ever since Apple joined the party, Samsung’s shares dropped dramatically in the third quarter by 40%. There are surely a lot of Android devices out there, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all Android devices are LTE devices, so here’s where Apple saw a chance and took it.
LTE is a feature that has gained immense popularity amongst customers across the world, especially in the US, Japan and Korea where the LTE market has bloomed. Strategy Analytics blames the rise on the launch of LTE-able iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3. They estimate that the two devices will boost user subscriptions to 50 million. Compare this to the 9 million subscriptions we saw last year.
After Samsung and Apple, LG came in at number three sharing 9.1% of the global marking and Motorola managed to snatch 6.7% of the market.
