Apple's focus on AR over VR could put it 3 to 5 years ahead of the rest of the industry.JPG

9to5 Mac reports that well-sourced KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has written in a note to investors that Apple’s decision to focus on augmented reality (AR) rather than virtual reality (VR) will give Apple a 3 to 5 year lead on the rest of the industry when it comes to launching its first AR products. Kuo also says that it’s possible that Apple is planning to use AR in an autonomous driving system.

However, Kuo says that we shouldn’t expect Apple to be releasing any AR products for at least a couple of years, as he says that Apple will initially be focusing on developing AR capabilities for the iPhone.

Tim Cook has gone on record this year as saying that Apple is much more interested in AR than VR, following the success of the first major AR game, Pokémon Go, and Apple has been busily hiring employees with AR expertise and filing patent applications involving AR tech for some years now.
