Apple Working on Gesture-Based Lock Screen

Apple’s iOS 4.3 Beta has already revealed that the company is working on gesture-based features, and now 9to5 Mac has revealed today that Apple is experimenting with a gesture-based lock screen for the iOS platform, which it likens to Android’s “dots” lock screen technology. Apparently, the feature works by having a user set up a pattern, which then has to be “entered” instead of the usual password or passcode. 9to5 Mac reports that Apple has already progressed far enough with this feature to have it up and running internally in its employee-only AppleConnect app. 9to5 Mac even has pictures of the feature in use, although it says that as the screen used by Apple looks exactly like the Android version, it will probably never see the light of day in its current form in public. The screenshots show that the AppleConnect Gestures are captured on the 9-point gesture pad, drawing lines from one dot to another. It looks like it might be a little hard to remember your saved gesture though, particularly if you’re in a hurry. I remember you had to do this sort of thing in the DS game Trauma Center and I was useless! Hopefully if Apple ever does introduce this for the lock screen, it will give you the option to choose to use a password or code instead.
