Apple has just made headlines again: it seems that the Mac App online Store has reached 100 million downloads. And its no wonder, when it was first launched back on the 6th of January; it sold over a 1 million apps only in 24 hours. It might sound huge, but compared to its iOS counterpart, its almost nothing. Yes, the other twin summed up 100 million downloaded apps in less than 2 short months.
Philip Schiller, Apples senior vice president of worldwide marketing stated that, in just three years the Apple Store produced a dogma shift in the PC software industry. And with more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is one of the largest and fastest growing PC software stores in the entire world. On the other hand, Google seems to have reported even bigger numbers for its Android Market, numbers that reached the high threshold of 10 billion apps.
According to the news, 70% of the revenue thus generated from non-free application went to developers, while Apple cashed in just 30%.
The Mac App Store is basically structured pretty much as Apples iOS App Store, and from there you can download the same apps. The trend seems to be catching on, and just recently, Microsoft seems to have made an announcement regarding the dawn of Windows Store, a marketplace for the future Windows 8 .
Overall, Mac Stores starting numbers are not bad at all and who knows maybe in time, it will prove to be more popular than its iOS brother. Lets just give it time to breathe and expand!
