Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services, Eddy Cue, has taken Rich DeMuro, from KTLA’s The Tech Report, on a shopping spree in Santa Monica, showing just how easy it is to use Apple Pay at various retailers and eateries.
AppleInsider reports that Cue used Apple Pay to order and pay for breakfast for two at Panera Bread without even entering the store, with the food being ready to pick up as soon as he and DeMuro arrived in the store. They then went to Bloomingdale’s and bought a pair of sunglasses. Despite using Apple Pay to buy the sunglasses, Cue also had to sign for them, an added security feature for items costing more than a certain amount.
After that, DeMuro and Cue visited the Disney Store, where DeMuro bought two dolls from the movie Frozen, before they ended their shopping trip at the AppleStore.
Talking to DeMuro at the AppleStore, Cue noted that while it is not possible to use an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 to buy items via Apple Pay in physical stores yet, as they are both lacking the required NFC capabilities, but it is possible to use Apple Pay for in-app purchases via Touch ID.
