A fascinating insight provided by a report on BGR into exactly how many dead pixels Apple expects you to put up with on your iPhone/iPod touch screen before it considers it to be faulty and worthy of replacement or repair. The good news is that the answer is zero, none, no pixels whatsoever! According to BGR, a source told them that Apples internal policy on acceptable numbers of pixel anomalies, as they call them, was recently revised. BGR has managed to obtain a copy of the table used by Mac Geniuses when dealing with customers with pixel problems. The table reveals details of the policy, which says that iPhones and iPod touches with just one faulty pixel should be repaired or replaced. This was in contrast to devices with larger screens than the iPhone and iPod touch screens. For MacBook Air models, for example, up to three light pixels, five dark pixels and up to seven anomalies combined were deemed acceptable before the device would be considered repairable or replaceable.
