Applying a new ringtone

Applying a new ringtone

Two options that I am aware of.

1) Buy it thru iOS

2) Create the ringtone with the proper extention and load it thru iTunes.

If you decide to create it, try to keep the ringtone under 40 seconds.

Here is what I did.........

I have a ringtone app which I downloaded from the app store and then downloaded a couple of ringtones to my phone. I then hooked my phone up to iTunes (and what follows was the instructions from the ringtone app). Once my phone was hooked up to iTunes I looked under my phone and in where my apps are listed was the ringtone app and when I clicked on it my ringtones showed up in a list. Now I had to copy the ringtones to my desktop then copy them to my iTunes library (they default to the tones), click on tones in the Library to make sure they are there then copy them from there and place them on my phone in the tones folder. Once that was done I unhooked from iTunes and went to into settings and sounds and applied the ringtones that I just downloaded.

Not sure why there are soooo many steps, its kind of stupid and it could be just the app that i have downloaded but that is how I got it to work. The ringtone had to go through all those steps for my phone to "see" it. It actually took me longer to type out the instructions then it did for me to do it.

Hope this helps you.

I'll try that. Thanks.

one i always recommend is to go to mobile9 on the pc,you just send the free ringtones to iTunes and you can use them for anything,it gives instructions, really easy.

I just use iTunes to make ringtone out of my music.

How is a new ringtone applied to the iPhone if it doesn't come with it?

After reading the replies to your question, you must be as depressed as I am about ringtones. I'm resigned to using the standard ringtones that came with the iPhone because, as you read, using iTunes is a disaster. It works -- if you use fairy dust and have lotsa luck.

I honestly think that using iTunes to make ringtones is the easiest way to do it,,.,next to the Cydia tweaks that allow you to just edit a song for music and put rite in the ringtone section of Settings> Sounds> Ringtone.

No other way I tried seemed any more difficult then using iTunes to do it. Computer wise any way.

For all its innovation with the iPhone, I can't believe that Apple hasn't made this task simpler and easier. Maybe with the iPhone 5? *Fingers crossed*

Why would they? And to further that, I am rather shocked that they make it as easy as they do.

The reason for that rationale is money. Apple wants to sell ringtones. If they make it easy to make your own, they cut into their own revenue stream. Do you honestly believe Apple wants to cut a revenue stream without having a new one to at least take its place?

i found it very easy with the method i posted, there are also apps in the app store that let you get free ringtones,it really isn't a problem.
