All Things D reports today on AT&T’s newly announced data rates for smartphones and tablets. As far as smartphones are concerned, where it had previously been charging $25 per month for 2GB of data, it will now be charging $30 per month for 3GB, and its lowest data plan, which was $15 for 200 megabytes will increase to $20 for 300 megabytes. At the other end of the scale, AT&T’s dearest data plan increases from $45 for 4GB to $50 for 5GB.
AT&T’s new tablet data plans are the same as the smartphone plans for the top two options, but the cheapest option stays the same as it is now, i.e. 250MB for $15, according to MacRumors.
According to All Things D, current customers will be able to remain on their current data plan, even after a phone upgrade, but they can also choose to switch plans if they want. For all new customers, however, the new plans will kick in from this Sunday, January 22.
