Bloomberg Businessweek Reports today that AT&T Chief Executive Officer Randall Stephenson has confirmed that AT&Ts forthcoming takeover of T-Mobile will improve network capacity and therefore improve service for the iPhone and other similar devices. Stephenson made the announcement today at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, where he elaborated by saying that acquiring T-Mobile would improve capacity on AT&Ts wireless network by approximately 30 percent in some of the bigger cities in America, according to Businessweek. He added that it would also reduce charges for roaming when abroad.
Stephenson also addressed recent criticism that the merger between the two companies would constrict competition in the US. Sprint, in particular, intends to try and get the deal blocked by the appropriate US authorities as it believes that the merger will result in just two companies dominating the industry.
This is an intensely competitive industry, said Stephenson. It is intense before we do this transaction, it will be intense after we do this transaction.
