AppleInsider reports today on new figures from AT&T which show that it activated 7.6 million iPhones over the holiday quarter at the end of 2011, a record figure for the company. According to AppleInsider, the 7.6 million activations work out at 20.5% of the 37 million iPhones sold by Apple in the quarter. AT&T revealed that the majority of those 7.6 million iPhones were the iPhone 4S, which ties in with what Apple execs said on Tuesday about the iPhone 4S being their best-selling model by far. To break down the figures even further, AppleInsider says that the iPhone accounted for 80.8% of the 9.4 million smartphones that AT&T sold in the quarter in question. This is a huge rise from the figure of 2.7 million activations representing 56% of AT&Ts smartphones sold in the previous quarter. [/FONT]
