Auto brightness refuses to work.

I've done the re calibration technique until I'm blue in the face. My slider will not move and my screen doesn't auto adjust. Does anyone know any other way to fix it? I've done a hard reset, do I need to backup through iTunes and restore my phone? I'm on iOS 7.1.2.

when you say it doesn't work, you mean it wont get brighter when your surroundings are brighter or that you see no difference in the brightness?
if theres no difference, its alright
if it stays dark, you are lost

There's no difference. It just won't adjust, no matter how many times it's recalibrated.
