Backing up iphone6

Hi, Well I'm getting there slowly with this ne iphone6. Been doing a backup using itunes and have noticed that there is also there is an option to backup my phone to my computer through itunes.
Will that work just the same as backing up with icloud if something goes wrong.
Can you please put me on the correct path on using backup to my computer through itunes.

You can backup to iTunes on your computer, or to iCloud online, without computer. Here's how it's done:

The backup is in iTunes on your computer. When restoring your iPhone from that backup it shows up on the page where you choose whether or not to set up your iPhone as a new phone or from the backup you made. Items in the backup are not individually accessible.
