Just got a new 4s and charged it overnight. The battery percentage only shows 95%, not 100%. Any ideas as to why?

Thanks,
Harvey

Yes. There is an issue with some iPhone 4S settings under iOS 5.0 that can cause an issue with battery drain. Apple released a patch to iOS developers last night to test their fix.

For now try the following. Please hold the sleep button down until the display shows a new slider at the top to power off the phone. Do so. Then after the spinning wheel stops in the center, hold down the sleep button until you see the Apple Logo appear. This will do a reboot of the phone. Then try to charge the phone.

Hopefully this iOS 5.0.1 BETA will be fast tracked for general release.

It's not the battery drain issue - the second phone I purchased only dropped 6% over a 12 hour span while in standby (consistent with the 200hr spec). The issue was that charging appeared to stop at 95%. I have now unplugged the phone and then plugged it back in and it then charged to 100%. I think this is just a calibration issue - do I need to drain it till it shuts off and then recharge it fully?

Thanks,
Harvey

Yes, a deep cycle discharge is always needed for new phones. But your description also fits the current 4S issue out in the field.

And your 6% over 12 hours is consistent with an iPhone 4, not the newer 4S.
