I am new to the iPhone world. The battery life on my 4s seems to be good - no complaints. I want to keep it that way. By the end of the day my battery is usually down to between 10 and 20%. I charge it over night. Should I be charging it at some point during the day to prevent it from dropping below 20% on a daily basis? Or as long as I'm not letting it die completely regularly is below 20% okay? I have been researching but haven't found the best answer - it seems different people have different theories on this?

The last time I looked into this I read that the battery life is best if you avoid going that low. One third was mentioned as a good point to avoid going below. But I don't think it makes a huge difference. Take a look at iRepair to see what it actually costs to replace the battery. I think it is down to $50 now, which is actually reasonable - $10 a year?

you do not need to recharge your iPhone durning the day since it's capable of handling your task till the end of the day. It doesn't matter at all if you battery drop below 20% or 10%, just don't let it reach 2%, 1% or die every day. That's all.

WLF...., as bab2010 wisely states, don't let the battery get too low every day! But my question to you is why it drains so quickly. Are you using the device constantly or just infrequently? My iPhone 4 can go for 3 days with "moderate" use (and turing off at night). If you start up at 100% in the morning and use the phone moderately, then are down to 10% or below in the evening, let us know. I'm not sure that's right!

From my point of view You can charge your phone when you are going to sleep.
Apple’s official specifically suggest charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down at least once a month.
So charge the battery 100% that's it.

Thanks everyone. I am not sure whether my usage would qualify as moderate or heavy but I thought for the 4s lasting me the day without needing a charge was pretty good? I may start charging mid-day just so I don't stress about dropping low. (in case of a power failure or something over night - always need to be prepared right?) No harm in doing that then I assume? Just want to make sure i take proper care of the phone/battery because of course I spent a lot of money, I want it to last, and I love it! I think my usage is increasing every day. Ive been awake 6.5 hours using phone a lot and I'm down to 57%.

Sure there is no harm charging your iPhone mid-day.
