TUAW reports that the BBC has just updated its iOS iPlayer app with Retina display support for the iPad, as well as the usual bug fixes, plus some general improvements to the app, including improved video performance on playback, and some general tidying, so youll notice even smoother performance, apparently. More Voice Over controls have also been added to improve accessibility. Back in July the app broke the 1 million downloads milestone, and thats without it even being available in the US yet. And its bad news on that front for US iPad and iPhone owners who have been patiently waiting to get the app, Im afraid, as TechRadar reports that the BBCs plans to make the player available in the US have so far been stymied by US cable companies, which, according to the report, have allegedly threatened that they will drop BBC America if the iPlayer gets released in the US.
