According to a report on TUAW today, smugglers in Hong Kong are coming up with new and inventive ways to try and smuggle iPhones into China in a bid to avoid Chinas heavy import tax on the devices. This time around it seems as though some hapless criminals have been caught using beer bottles, of all things, to hide iPhones inside. Covering the story, Chinese TV said that the smugglers shoved three iPhones at a time into some pretty large beer bottles, before resealing the bottles with tape, in a bid to conceal their precious contents. In total, more than 200 iPhones were hidden in the bottles in an attempt to get them into China illegally. You can see what went on in the video at the top of the post, which is taken from the Chinese-language news report, which shows the large beer bottles neatly cut in half, with the iPhones hidden inside. The customs agents got lucky this time, but it seems like theyre fighting a losing battle with the smugglers most of the time.
