better Keyboard & Messenger client/apps

i came from using Handscent on an Android- which was just about the only thing i liked about the phone.. is there an iPhone App that comes close? all the apps i'm finding prompts the user to 'add' or 'import' Contacts.. i'm wanting to completely replace the factory apps.... is this possible?
