MacRumors reports on a new study by InfoScout that shows that almost half as many possible Apple Pay users actually used the payment system this past Black Friday than did in 2014.
InfoScout surveyed 300,000 people in total, discovering in the process that March 2015 was Apple Pay’s peak period, but there was also an upswing in usage in the fall when iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were released.
InfoScout’s figures showed that Apple Pay was used for 2.7% of possible Apple Pay transactions on Black Friday this year, in comparision with 4.9% of possible Apple Pay transactions in 2014. InfoScout says that the latter high figure could have been due to curiosity about the new Apple Pay system, which had only just been launched at the time.
However, as MacRumors notes, InfoScout’s figures do not take into account all those shoppers who used Apple Pay as part of an in-app payment system, such as those in Target and Best Buy’s apps.
