I need to be able to send any of my appointments on my IPhone 4S to my hubby's IPhone 4S. When I use the Invite selection, it doesn't give the appointment info, or a way to respond to the Invitation. On my old Blackberry Bold, I could send it as an mms and it would have choices on the other end to add to their calendar. Anything like that in IPhone?

Yes, there is... I have actually used it to send stuff to my wife's iPad. I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it again though. Did you ever get it figured out?

Sure the iPhone is capable of sending calendar invites. I will be posting with screenshots shortly for your better understanding.
First of all, make sure that both you and your contact are having iCloud accounts and make sure that iCloud is properly set up in your iPhones and that the calendar is activated in iCloud and operational.
The red arrows is where you tap, the blue one is just to notice.
That's it, after that your contact will receive your invitation via iCloud and accept it if he/she wish to.
