camera icon on the lock screen of iPhone 4S

I thought the purpose of this icon was that you could turn on the camera app without having to unlock the screen, but all it does is jump the lock screen up and down a little. Is there something wrong with my phone, or have I misunderstood its purpose?

If your 4S is updated to iOS 5.1... then you have to touch the camera icon and slide it up the screen. You're prolly just tapping it.

Yup thats correct you have to slide the camera icon up.
