Can I update my already jailbroken iphone 3G to a higher version firmware?

First, i hope u'll forgive my ignorance since i've just inherited (thrown at my face by my irate sister, wud be more accurate, to make me get rid of my so-called "dinosaur" nokia) and quite new to this jailbreaking business. It's an iphone 3G with firmware 4.2.1 and already jailbroken. My question is if i can get the current firmware to be updated to a higher version since i'd like some apps (FindMyIphone, for instance) but it won't work on my current iphone. Can anyone tell me if it's possible and how will i do it?

Unfortunately no. The highest iOS version and iPhone 3G supports is 4.2.1.

Damn. I was hoping somebody wud reply that ur wrong about this. *sigh* And I was just starting to have fun downloading apps...
