can i update to new version

hi guys/gals

i know you've probably heard this a million times before buti recently had my iphone 3gs unlocked and was running version 5.0.1 ,when the phone came back from being unlocked it was running version 4.1,is it ok for me to update thtu itunes to 5.0.1? because ive heard if you do the phone will lock itself back to its original carrier is this true?any advice would be appreciated

Just so we understand here.... You're 3GS was previously running 5.0.1, you sent it off to have it Unlocked, when it was returned to you it was Unlocked and on 4.1? Just trying to get a few more details here so some of our Unlocking gurus can help you out.

hi i'm sorry for the slow reply!,yes that's correct i updated the phone to 5.0.1 however when i got the phone back from unlocking it was running 4.1,i was wondering if i should update the phone upto 5.0.1 again or will i lose my cydia and will the phone be locked and return to its original carrier? thanks again
