Cannot start phone or contacts app after os5 upgrade

I have just updated my 3GS to os5 - when I try to open the phone or contacts applications if starts and immediately closes down ? The phone receives calls but I cannot make one as the phone application will not remain open - ideas please

Already tried a hard reset?

Tried soft and hard reset to no avail - the phone can receive calls but once I start the phone app to make a call it opens and closes immediately - same with contacts app

Sorted now - contacted apple support who were great - had to link up to iTunes and set up the phone as a new iPhone - all well now
