Can't transfer photos

I am accustomed to using a PC program, HP PhotoSmart Essentials, to upload my photos to my PC.

This worked just fine with my 4s. But not with my 6s. I have an idea that the photos have been relocated to another folder on the iPhone. I'm not married to using that software as long as I can upload them and hopefully to the same folders and subfolder scheme as I have now. But what can I do, given that I'm walking around with some photos that may disappear if anything untoward happens? Thanks.

I back my important photos up to an external Hard Drive, I also store photos offline in Dropbox and Copy, Both give you some free storage.

Thanks for the reply. I am backed up to the Cloud, but while I have an external drive, containing all the photos on my PC, never thought of transferring there.

Doubt I have the facility to do that, either.
