Cant Update to 5.1!!

If I try from Itunes I get the message " There was a problem downloading the software for the Iphone. The network connection could not be established " If I try over WiFi I get " Unable to check for update " I was able to update Itunes just fine. I originally thought that the Apple server was just swamped but this is Friday. Anybody know what might be the problem? This happens for both my Iphone and Ipad! Thanks

you dont load it on your phone you download it from your computer and install it with itunes
