Chaos Rings Omega, the prequel to the best-selling Square Enix RPG Chaos Rings arrives in the App Store today for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Chaos Rings was one of Apple’s “iTunes Rewind 2010” award recipients, and this prequel has been eagerly awaited by Square Enix’s millions of fans worldwide. The game is actually set 10,000 years before the events of the first game, with players now following the story of Vieg, who has been summoned to the Ark Arena to fight to the death. The first Chaos Rings story began with the following line: “A tale of love and loss 10,000 years in the making.” Now, with Chaos Rings Omega, players have a chance to discover and experience those very events that set the entire saga in motion.

Gameplay revolves around a turn-based battle system, with players given the choice of “solo” moves, where they can enter commands separately, or “pair” moves where they can perform team actions. Working in tandem, players concentrate their attacks to make them more effective and powerful. By defeating enemy monsters, players earn specific DNA information called “genes,” which can be equipped, and which bring with them the monster’s magic and special attack moves.

And as if that wasn’t enough Chaos Rings goodness for one day, Square Enix has slashed the price of the original Chaos Rings game by 70% to celebrate the release of the sequel, with the original iPhone game available from now until May 27 for $3.99/£2.39/€2.99.
