I've come to the conclusion that the folks at the Apple Store are clueless about chargers.

My simple question is "can the 10W iPad charger be used for the iPhone4s". The current capability is higher as it's 10W than the little cube the iPhone comes with and seems to charge the phone quicker. Am I taking a risk here?

The iPad 10W charger is 5.1V @ 2.1A, the iPhone 4S cube says 5V @ 1A. Since the voltage is the same, seems like it should be fine and faster if the iPhone4S battery can take the 2A.

Thanks,
Bob

I wouldn't use the iPad charger all the time but once in a while won't hurt.

There is no problem using the iPad charger on the iPhone all the time. The phones charging circuitry will protect the battery from over charging.

It won't charge any faster, but it certainly won't hurt it. The current (amps) rating is what it's capable of, not what it "forces" upon the device. Current is dependent on two things: supplied voltage, and the resistance of the charged device, which is in this case controlled by the charging system in the iPhone or iPad. You wouldn't want to try to charge the iPad with the iPhone charger because it couldn't supply the needed current.

The iPad will charge with the iPhone charger, it just charges very slowly.
