AppleInsider reports today that the third-largest wireless operator in China, China Telecom, has announced that it will have the iPhone 4S from March 9, signaling the end of China Unicoms iPhone exclusivity in China. According to a statement on China Telecoms website, it will begin taking online preorders for the new phone from March 2. This is such big news that an Apple spokesperson actually commented on it, and you know they dont do that very often! Heres what Apples Natalie Harrison told The Loop: iPhone 4S has been an incredible hit with customers around the world. Were thrilled to be launching iPhone 4S with China Telecom and cant wait to get it into the hands of even more customers in China.
Those customers in China will be able to get a 16GB iPhone 4S for free on a two-year contract for 389RMB ($62) per month, which, AppleInsider notes, is slightly more than China Unicoms 386RMB per month, although China Telecom has more data and voice minutes, and slightly less free texts than China Unicom.
