With the first Top Gun iPhone game already proving to be such a massive success, Paramount has decided to release Top Gun 2 for the iPhone/iPod touch sooner rather than later. As with the first game, Top Gun 2 offers action-packed air-to-air and air-to-ground combat with dynamic level design and plenty of high-flying thrills and spills (although hopefully not too many of the latter!). In the all-new arcade-style shooter, players get to take control of US Navy jets as they attempt to navigate intricate environments. Using the accelerometer, players will learn how to perform all-new high-speed defensive maneuvers and offensive strikes.
Some of the new features that fans can expect to enjoy in Top Gun 2 include more jets and more weapons, which is always a good thing! Players will now have three state-of-the art combat aircraft to choose from: the F/A-18 Hornet, the F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the F-14 Tomcat, each with fully upgradeable cannon and missile systems.
As well as standard-issue Sidewinder missiles and Vulcan cannons, each jet has unique offensive and defensive capabilities, with the F-14 featuring Metal Storm offense and Afterburner defense, the F-14 offering Missile Barrage offense and Shield defense, and the F/A-18 featuring Smart Bomb offense and Flares defense.
The gameplay is designed to keep the player always on the edge of their seats, with surprise attacks aplenty and enhanced AI capable of multiple attack patterns and evasive maneuvers. You can also expect to engage in some fierce boss battles to ratchet up the intensity even further.
Top Gun 2 is set across seven unique theatres of operations (including outer space!), against not just enemy fighter jets, but also enemy armor and helicopters.
Technically speaking, the game boasts full-screen anti-aliasing, shader effects and enhanced specular and particle effects. Or in other words, its going to look really awesome!
No release date as yet, all we know is that it will be coming to the App Store very soon.
