I would say it all depends on what work you will be doing on your new mac. If the old model is powerful enough you could save money.

I made the leap late 2008 with a MacBook. iLove it. Best thing I ever did. There is an adjustment period getting used to the different OS. The Mac OS is quite different but once you abandon your PC way of thinking they are actually easier. More logical. Once you go Mac you'll never go back.

I have a MacBook Air and love it. Will never go back go PC. The MacBook is all I ever need so it will depend on your needs. I love the versatility of a laptop as apposed to a Desk top computer. Whatever you choose, I'm sure you won't regret buying a Mac. They also have the added bonus of no virus's.

There are viruses on a mac. People shouldn't say that it is miss selling a product. There are less viruses on a mac than windows because people write less.

When people write viruses they want computers to get them so they target the majority users which are windows pc.

I have had a virus on my MacBook pro which completely messed up safari and had to do a complete reinstall.

What do you currently use your pc for? We have two iPhones and an iPad as well as a laptop and hardly ever use the laptop anymore.

Myself I would rather a laptop or desktop pc that have an iPad. Laptops can do so much more and also upgradeable.

List your needs - compare them to the various Macs until you find one that meets all/most of your needs. It all revolves around your needs. Good luck and welcome to Mac. I also am one that will never go back (4 years now). I would go back to Linux before going to Microsoft.

Also go out and compare apples to apples,,, look at a $1000 11.6 laptop and see what you get.

Go to an Apple store and talk to them. I had a client who wanted a MacBook Pro. After going to Apple and telling them what she wanted to use it for she ended up with an IMac, and IPad and a IPod for a little more than the MacBook and they all fit her need.

Have you have experience with the mac? using it at a apple store or a friend owning one?

I find with apple products its always best to go directly to them and get one..

  • 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5 dual-core processor
  • 2 GB DDR3 SDRAM
  • 64GB Flash Storage
  • 11.6-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor
  • Mac OS X v10.7 Lion, 7 Hour Battery Life
not sure about the ram.. I would recommend a 4GB minimum and going to apple you can get it with 4 for cheaper, Are you a light user also? that 64GB space will run out so quickly

I converted to Mac's about 6 years ago. I have no regrets. Currently, I have a 15 in MacBookPro. I've had it for two years and have not have any issues. My wife used our 21 in iMac. That particular computer is four years old and still runs very well. A few months ago I purchased her a 13" MacBookAir. She is thrilled.

For me the differences screen, boot up speed, HD vs Flash, CD vs no CD.

If I were to replace my MBP today, I would get an Air. It is light, fast, great resolution and integrates with my iPhone.

As others have suggested visit an Apple store. Another option, visit BestBuy. They are an authorized reseller and, typically, have a good selection and knowledgable staff to assist. Check out the Apple site. Here is a link, to Apple, that my help Apple - Find Out How - Mac Basics

Finally, check out our sister forum AppleForums Apple Forum - Mac Forum

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Well, I have an iPhone and I'm basically addicted to it so I thought I should convert from a PC to a macbook. i found a few online and wanted some opinions from macbook users.

Here's the one I'm interested in.
Amazon.com: Apple MacBook Air MC968LL/A 11.6-Inch Laptop (NEWEST VERSION): Computers & Accessories
They have the older version, too thats about 100 bucks cheaper.. should i just go with the older version? What are the differences really?
It's all depend on what you are doing with your present computer. Notice that up to date, there are a lot of universities softwares missing on the Mac, good news is that you will be capable of installing windows on your mac in case you will need so must have softwares which are only available for the Windows.
I'm uising a 17inch MBP 2.53GHz quad core i5 with 8GB of RAM 500GB HHD, i'm having both windows 7 and OS X Lion installed on the computer as i need to run some softwares which are only available for windows. I never turn on the windows 7 partition unless i need to run windows only softwares. The Mac os is great and strong, i found Mac to be easy to handle multimedias, videos, music, photos, downloading, etc... and if you have a security and reliability concern like me, you will love mac because of that. It just works, and that's not all of it, i'm having 7h of usage time out of my MBP battery every day, way enough to make my day.
I'm not sure what you are planing to be doing on your MAC computer, but whatever it is, just go for it and i assure you that you will love it the same way you love your iPhone.
